Problem: The KLAW Industries Factory was expanding product capacity and adding a pneumatic conveying system system. Both required a lot of clean, dry compressed air. Also-  there was no space in factory to put this new system

Solution: Add an 1,500sf extension to the building, install a 150hp air compressor, 2000 gallons of storage capacity, and an air dryer. We did all of this for <$50,000 + 8 weeks of my time + 1 junior engineer.

Steps Taken:

1) Determine compressed air supply requirements (cfm, pressure, acceptable moisture level, etc). This involved: several experiments on our equipment + supplier conversations.

2) Design extension. This involved: review of property’s land survey, required height for compressed air tanks, determining soil composition, determine wind and snow loads, location of windows, doors, and exhaust ducts, working with contractors to design a easy to build extension.

3) Determine contractor. This involved: Getting references from my network, calling 10+ contractors, showing the project to 6 contractors, negotiating price and terms, and making a determination based on price, terms, and judgment of the character of the contractors.

4) Laying Concrete. I designed and built the concrete pad in order to save money. Once designed, I organized our team to put the concrete in place.

5) Installing Compressed air system

6) Finishing extension
